He blinked, once, in response, and put his head to the side, watching her pass him. Then he laughed, a cold chuckle, mirthless and without humor. He turned, and fell into step beside her. "Amusing, amusing. You know nothing of me, and yet you presume so much." His black eyes glittered, shadows passing across them, vanishing within their depths, strange, shifting shadows. "I meant no disrespect, I speak only the truth. My business is none of yours here. That is the truth, like it not. You have not a right to know what I'm doing here. This town may be yours, but I am not. I am a harbinger, a messenger. What I do means nothing to you so long as I do not disturb the peace, yes?" He walked silently as a ghost, hands clasped in front of him, eyes hooded. The weeds poking through the cracks in the sidewalk withered and died whenever he stepped on them, leeched of life, turned gray and crumbling. The birds went silent as he passed, and began their singing anew only when he had bypassed them. He seemed not to notice, walking with an easy grace beside the demon, eyes hooded.

Khami did not even give him the grace of a glance, but kept her eyes forward and let her disinterest show plainly on her face. She had not yet forgiven the unkindness he showed her, but she was not near so angry.
"And you know nothing of me, so we are even," she said in a clipped tone. "You also presume TOO much. And that would be right, as long as the peace is kept. But that depends on whom the message is for." Here she stopped and stepped in front of him, her eyebrow raised in boredom and a hand carelessly on her hip. "You'd find if it were for my people it IS my business. My family owns this town in particular. My father is in charge here, of both race and civilization. So everyone who comes through this town is my business and anyone who has a message for my family is my business. Don't assume anything with me, sir, you'd be quite surprised at what you find."
Khami noticed the death and fear left behind by him and noticed him with only irritation. "And if you can't control that," she pointed behind him, "then you might want to leave quickly. It's hard enough to get city hall to pay for paved roads much less vegetation and wild life."

"I presume nothing, except that I am much older than you, by centuries. And my message is not for you", he said mildly, pausing in his walk and surveying her. "I merely said I am a harbinger, a messenger, not that I carry a message. I myself do no know why I am here. I do not question the Lady. To do so would be a supreme act of stupidity. My mind functions well above such impulses. As a demon, you should understand that inhuman minds serve far better than the human type." He said 'humans' with a slight down-turn of his lips, as if he found the name distasteful. "Humans; to my eyes no more than cattle with highly evolved brains. But they make for some pleasant company occasionally." He started off again, stepping around her, and then turning to face her back. "My name is Cyn Balthasar, Lieutenant, formerly the Lady's Right Hand, familiar of Danni Ortega, servant to Ryhsis and Acar, though Acar is my god, Ryhsis my ruler."

"You presume far too much if age is what sets your bar for strength and wit," she said, turning to the intersection and waiting for the traffic to die down so she could cross. "As for the extreme act of stupidity, all I've seen of you is a pompous ass. It would not surprise me to see you make a mistake so pathetic. As for your name, it's not important. Your god and ruler, even less so. As long as they keep away from our territory, I never need to worry about them and they never need to worry about their lives."
She walked across the intersection the second the traffic halted and meandered away further through the city. She'd find a different way home, hopefully one with a less pretentious and insufferable population of pedestrians.

"No, age and experience, though our strength increases with age. Wit is a trait most of us do not lack. Usually it is biting sarcasm that passes for humor. We are a cynical lot", he said dryly, following her leisurely across the road, adroitly hopping over the hood of a car that came to a screeching halt in the crosswalk. "Insufferable I may be, but stupid I am not. And my gods do not have fear of you. They have nothing in this world to fear. Not even a demon can defeat a god. They are well and alive, and can be proven to exist, unlike the human's god." He surveyed her intently a moment, then said, "My name was an offer of peace, Miss. Not in any way a declaration of myself."

Kayla heard the girl and tall man talking outside her home but she couldn't hear what exactly they were saying. It didn't really matter to her. It wasn't any of her business. She's probably find out more about them tomorrow anyways when she went to town hall to get her papers finalized for living here. She went over to the living room and turned on the tv hoping that mindless media prattle would distract her long enough to keep her busy for a while.
"I wonder what all that was even about?" She muttered distantly. She went into the kitchen to grab some food and watched from the window. The girl and man were still there but the girl had crossed the street. It looked like those two weren't getting along in the slightest.
"Well she's got the right idea." Kayla said softly. "If you don't like someone you leave them alone. I think I might actually like it here. It's a small town yes but close knit communities are in a way more comfortable."

He knew she was watching, he felt her eyes on them. He turned suddenly, and looked straight through the window. His lip lifted, baring his wolfish teeth in a fierce, humorless smile. His eyes stared into hers; he could see them even from this far away, watching the two.

Kayla could feel the mans eyes burning into her. Like he could see every little thought she had. She turned quickly away and went upstairs to her room where she shut and locked the door before flopping over on her bed.
'That guy seriously gives me the creeps." She muttered not even bothering to realize that her hands were shaking out of control. It wasn't until she nearly broke the water glass that was next to her bed that she even noticed she was shaking at all.
"i really need to stop watching horror movies." She muttered. "Either that or I need to lay off the caffine for a couple of weeks." Shaking her head she lay on her bed and tried to at least catch a few z's to calm her nerves.

Khami turned to snarl at Cyn.
"Quit freaking out the citizens. We do it enough unintentionally," she snapped.
She turned back away from him and waited until a few humans had passed, nodding and smiling at a few people she knew to be of her race and were good friends. Every last one of them looked at her unwanted companion with confusion and severe apprehension. It irked her even more. She barely resisted grinding her teeth.
"And my name is Khami Gale," she added grudgingly as she crossed another street.

"Khami." The name rolled of his tongue, his voice low and soft. "Hmm." He noticed the looks her friends gave him, but he kept his face impassive and still. His bangs fell forward over his face, obscuring his black eyes. "Why are they wary of me?" he asked quietly, shoving his hands in his pockets, his shoulders hunched forward. His eyes wandered over the buildings and houses without any apparent interest.
